Last Friday Connor mastered riding his scooter! My big boy is figuring things out left and right! When we bought it for him for his birthday, he would just stand on it and wait for us to push him. He is now pushing off on his own and steering!!!!! HUGE step for his brain to process and plan out!
Oh, and he has also learn how to turn on the TV and flush the potty. He is obsessed with!
Can''t believe our baby boy is 4! FOUR! It has been a wonderful year for him. Ever since he started preschool he has done nothing but show such great progress. He is trying to imitate words, sounds, and gestures. He even recongnizes the words Wonder Pets(his favorite TV show) when he hears that it''s coming on next. He comes over to me and let''s me know it''s coming on. His teachers tell me how great he''s doing in school. He is able to match common pictures and also requests his wants(snacks) using the PECs board! I am sooooo proud of my big boy and can''t wait to see what amazing things he''s going to surprise us with next!
Gavin has been loving playing T-Ball. At our very first game he received the first game ball of the season. I was SO PROUD of him. Yesterday he played AMAZING. Every time he was up to bat he hit the call to center field. He didn''t even need to use the tee at all. He is becoming quite the baseball player. He has a very busy game schedule this week due to the flood here in GA. He had a game yesterday and is playing today, Saturday, and Sunday. He is loving every minute of it!
Yay! Connor has learned how to give kisses. Yesterday I keep asking him "Can I have a kiss" every time I would kiss him. Within 10 minutes of working with him on this he was giving me kisses. CRAZY!!!! The boy is catching onto things so quickly. I am sooooo excited and think it is the cutest thing that I keep asking him if I can have a kiss. He is going to get so sick of me asking...LOL
Well we decided to let Connor offically sleep in a big boy bed last night. We took the mattress out and laid it on the floor for him. We figured since he has been seizure free for almost 2 years now is a better time then ever. Of course he had to check out his new found freedoom and roam around the room. After a few minutes of doing that I laid him down and rubbed his back. Then I told him night night and proceeded to close the door. The second I heard his foot hit the floor I went back into his room and laid him back down in bed(did that for 1 1/2 hrs). Every time he saw me open the door he would run back to the bed and pretend like he was sleeping. We were not successful the first night, but tonight he is SLEEPING in the big boy bed! We let him run around the room and check things out. Finally when he got tired I laid him in his bed, rubbed his back (which he insisted on showing me), and said night night. After about an hour of putting him back in the bed he FINALLY fell asleep. Wooo hoo, no more lugging him in and out of the Safety Bed!
Connor did AWESOME last night! When I went to check on him in the middle of the night he was still sound asleep. He woke up at 6:30 this morning and was ready to start his day. Today he went straight to his bed for naptime and was out within 15 minutes. Think he''s starting to get the hang of this whole sleeping in a big boy bed :).
Connor started signing "more" on Sunday! He was eating Goldfish, and when they were all gone I asked him if he wanted more. He clapped his hands twice so I gave him more. Just to make sure he wasn''t clapping I asked him to clap and it was different from signing more. Once he was done, I asked him again if he wanted more and he signed again! At first I thought it was a fluke, but yesterday he kept signing more when we would ask him if we wanted more. This is HUGE for us!
Connor had an awesome first day of preschool and we are so proud of him! His teacher emailed and this is what she said...
" Jan and I both think he did great! We spent a lot of time hand-over-hand playing. During circle time, Jan sat behind him. He did a great job sitting, listening, watching what was going on and all.
I told your husband the BEST news! He urinated in the potty 2 TIMES!!!. The first time was just a dab, but the next time was a lot (on our standards anyway!). I''m excited for all of us with that news! So we''ll keep trying that! :)
At lunch, Connor initiated eating only one bite on his own. . . so we did hand-over-hand with what he did eat. I kept offering him his juice, but he didn''t want it. . . so he only drank a little at lunch.
Then back in the room, he did lay down. I patted his back a little and he was out like a light! So his head was all sweaty when we woke him up. He slept about 25 min. or so!
We look forward to seeing him again tomorrow! He had a great day! Really he did great today for his first day in a structured environment!
It is Connor''s first day of preschool today! He woke up early in the best mood and was ready to go. When Grant took Gavin to school, Connor stood by the door waiting for his turn. The drive there was fine, but as we got closer to school I started to get teary eyed. We walked into the school building and down the hallway to his class. On the way, we were greeted by the parapro, and Connor gave her the biggest hug. Once we got into his classroom he was ready to go play. It was a little hectic so I said my good bye and was on my way. Once I got in the car, I lost it. I was sobbing like a baby. I have NEVER left him with a non family memeber. Thank God I never have to go through "the very first day of school" again...well not until college :)!
We had a wonderful Christmas! Gavin was so excited when he woke up and discovered Santa had left presents under the boys'' tree. He was even more excited when he came downstairs and found the note Santa had left him. He came tearing into our room to tell us all about it. Meanwhile, poor Connor was calling from his bed upstairs for us to come get him. He was ready to open presents! After breakfast we packed up the car and headed to Mom and Dad''s house for lunch with the whole family and more presents. The boys had a great time playing with their gifts and were worn out by the end of the day.
I found out this afternoon that Connor is going to be placed at Head Elementary for preschool. I am SO excited! The school is only 5 minutes away from where I teach so I will be close by. My wonderful principal is allowing me to come into work 30 minutes late so that I can drop Connor off in the morning. This is a HUGE help...now I don''t have to figure out who is going to get the boys to school. I can drop off both of them.
Connor''s teacher is very well know in the special education "world." My principal and friends who are in the special education field speak very highly of her. There are 6 students in his class(they are 3 and 4 years olds). He will be the third 3 year old in the class. They only have one little girl(poor thing). I am so glad and relieved that things are falling into place. I hope it continues :0).
Our baby boy turned 3 today! Can''t believe it has already been three years since we firt saw his little face, held his little body, and welcomed him into the world.
We had Thanksgiving/Connor''s birthday out our house. Connor was so excited about all the new toys he got. He played and played all day long with them. He was in pure toy heaven.
On Tuesday I went to his Eligability/IEP(Individual Education Program) meeting for special education preschool. They hold me that he qualifies to go 5 days a week. We have decided to start him in January since there will be a break in December for Christmas. It''s hard to believe that he will be going to school. A part of me knows this is best for him, but the other part can''t imagine sedning him off to school for someone else to attend to his needs. It will be a HUGE adjustment for everyone (especially Mommy). I just keep telling myself that this is what he needs and that it''s just another step to his process of learning, developing, and growing.
I know I have not posted in awhile. Gavin and Connor are doing great! Gavin LOVES Pre-K and tells my mom everyday when she picks him up..."Halmaneh, school is GREAT!" We are so excited that he''s liking school. Connor is progressing everyday. His favorite thing to do is watch Moose on Noggin and talk to him. He could be so involved playing in his toy room, but the second he hears Moose on the TV he comes sprinting into the livingroom and stands right in front of the TV. Grant and I get the biggest kick out of watching him.
Connor has figured out how to get out of his toddler bed (YIKES)! We had a handy man come and adapt a twin bed into basically an oversized crib. There is railing on the side and foot of the bed(pictures are in June Photos). Hopefully he will not figure out how to get out of this one. He has been sleeping in it for a week now...so far so good.
Yeah!!!! Connor said "mama" today! He was sitting there playing with a toy and all of a sudden he said mama. I tired to get him to say it again and of course he wouldn''t. He sat there shaking his head no and was laughing at me (little booger).
Ugh! What a week we have had! We have been to the doctor twice this week! Gavin has once again gotten an ear/sinus infection. This is the 4th one since he started school in January. Connor now has pink eye and also a sinus infection as well. I am sooooo looking forward to everyone feeling better soon.
Connor had his follow up appointment with the neurologist today and everything went well. The doctor said he probably will not do an EEG until closer to summer since he has been on Keppra for a short time.
Gavin is doing great at Preschool! He is Star Student this week! He is so exctied because he gets to have a lunch guest and is looking forward to showing off his classroom to Papa and Grandma. My baby is getting to be such a BIG BOY! (sniff)
Connor slept in his "Big Boy" bed last night. I was so nervous that he was going to fall out since he looooves to jump, but he did great! I must have gotten up every two hours to check on him. This morning when he woke up he was standing at the foot of his bed with the biggest grin (too cute)!
Gavin started his first full week of Pre-K this week. Every morning he tells me he doesn''t want to go to school and do work. He just wants to play. Once he gets there he realizes it''s not so bad (getting used to the whole "structure" thing). He''s getting to be such a Big Boy!
The neurologist called this morning with Connor''s 24 hour EEG results. He stated that Connor is not having any seizures but that his brain is having abnormal electrical discharges. The discharges are coming from the frontal lobe and on both side. Although these are not the results we were hoping for, the good news is that Connor is not having seizures.
HOLY COW! Only four years old, and Gavin is riding without training wheels today! Grant didn''t even have to show him what to do. He just got on his bike and took off down the sidewalk. Grant and I are SO PROUD of him!
We are back from visiting Papa and Grandmommy in Michigan. We all had a great time, and it was nice seeing everyone again. I think the highlight of the trip for Gavin was when he got to ride on Uncle Richard''s dump truck. Connor had the best time swimming in Papa and Grandmommy''s pool.
Connor-He took his first steps on May 28! His PT told me he could walk but I didn''t believe her. When she came out to the house on the 28th he took 5 steps for her. By the end of his session he was walking a distance of 3 feet. He is now trying to run and keep up with his big brother.
Gavin-Believe it or not, Gavin will be turning 4 next month (my baby is growing up so fast). He will be starting a private preschool in October as it is still being built. He is so excited and points out his school every time we drive by it.
